Separate Tables is a beautifully crafted double bill involving the same group of guests staying at a private hotel in Bournemouth. In the first play, two 'casuals' ruffle the feathers of the 'permanents'. Divorced, after a tempestuous marriage, their unexpected encounter gives them the chance to consider a new direction.
In the second play, one of the permanent guests is shamed by a revelation in the local newspaper. His feelings for another guest give him the courage to confront his failings.
A great success on stage, it was also filmed with Burt Lancaster, Rita Hayworth, David Niven, Deborah Kerr, Gladys Cooper, Rod Taylor and Wendy Hiller.
