Brilliant Lies
Friday 6 August to Saturday 28 August 2010
Directed by Rachel Cliffe
David Williamson’s Brilliant Lies is a serious comedy which examines the subject of sexual harassment in the workplace.
A manipulative woman, Susy, (Bettina Girdler) is fired from her job by her boss and company manager, Gary (David Pointon), and his boss and company owner, Vince (Peter Polesel). Susy claims sexual harassment in hopes of snagging a settlement, while her former boss contends his innocence in hopes of protecting his assets. A mediation hearing, led by mediator, Marion (Yolanda Spata) is called to sort out the claims. Susy calls on her sister Katy (Allyson McKinnon-Howett) to back up her story. But Katy has her own problems with their father (Malcolm Gregory), while their brother (Daniel Cooper) tries to keep the peace.
As the case heads towards a tribunal hearing, working out just who is telling the truth and who is telling a pack of brilliant lies is the challenge the viewer will face.
This play explores the nature of truth and lies. It is directed by Rachel Cliffe, who also directed Dancing at Lughnasa, Secret Bridesmaid’s Business and, most recently, The Wisdom of Eve.
Patrons are advised this production contains strong sexual references and some coarse language.
