Become a Member and get involved with the Guild Theatre
Our Guild Theatre is a community theatre company and we encourage
you to become a member and get involved.
There are stacks of opportunities to get involved in a variety
of ways including acting, set design, lighting, sound operation,
stage management and prompting.
Getting involved with our community theatre group provides tremendous
opportunities to meet new people and to share in the wonder of
one of the oldest creative crafts that has ever existed.
Members' nights also provide members with the opportunity to try
their skills at acting or directing. Maybe you will direct your own
production with us one day.
Just contact us and tell us
how you might like to get involved.
More Information
The Guild Theatre, Walz Street, Rockdale is one of the foremost amateur theatre groups in Sydney. Established in 1952, the Guild offers its members the opportunity to participate in bringing to its patrons a wide range of dramas and comedies.
The Guild stages four major productions a year, each production running for 19 performances over a four week period, playing Friday, Saturday & Wednesday nights with Matinee performances on Saturdays and some Sundays. We also hold members’ nights after each production, giving members the opportunity to display their skills in a number of one-act play readings.
The Guild is probably one of the few amateur theatres in Sydney that endeavors to cast its productions from within its membership. Auditions are held for each production.
Intending members should realise that in a drama group, all members cannot be involved in every production. Some plays might only have five or six roles, however if you do not have a part there are plenty of other areas where you can be involved. i.e. Stage Managing, Prompting, Lighting, Sound, Costumes, Set Building etc.
Members are also rostered on for Front of House duties once during a production. This entails ushering patrons to their seats, serving the tea/coffee at interval and cleaning up after the show finishes.
A member who has attended for his/her Front of House duties or who is involved in a production either on stage or behind the scenes is entitled to receive one free ticket (or two for opening night) to the following production.
Fees: Adult $20.00 joining fee and $20.00 yearly fee. Juniors: $5.00 joining fee and $5.00 yearly fee.
The Guild is incorporated under the Companies Act as a Company Limited by guarantee whereby the members, in the event of the Company being wound up and having incurred debts and liabilities, are liable to contribute to the Company's assets: such liability is limited to fifty dollars ($50.00) per Member.
A suitable time will be organized for intending members to meet with the Guild Committee prior to their application for membership being tabled for consideration at a Committee meeting.
