PLOT SUMMARY

Wait Until Dark is the story of a blind woman besieged by three violent and devious con-men. Adapted into a
famous film starring Audrey Hepburn, this original play will keep you on the edge of your seats until the lights fade. A thriller. The play takes place in a basement flat in London, Notting Hill Gate in the mid-sixties.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
Mike – Stage Age: 30 to 45

A con man, fresh out of prison but owes heaps of dough to the
loan sharks. This makes him a potentially desperate man. Handsome and rugged, but not
necessarily prone to violence. He is capable of bluffing his prey with his smooth talking
and personable charm.

Croker – Stage Age: 30 to 45

Another con man who shared time in prison with Mike, but
does not have quite the same intellect or patience as Mike. He is a nervy character, prone
to “get in your face” with his knuckle duster, motivated by an immediate need for cash.

Roat – Stage Age: 40 to 55

The chess master of the 3 con-men. A story-teller. He can
manipulate every person and situation, with acute adeptness. He appears fluent in Italian
and a master of disguises. He has a back-up plan for each scenario and conveys an air of
potential brutality.

Susy Henderson – Stage Age: 25 to 35

Blinded in an accident 12 months ago, and recently
married to Sam, she is learning how to cope with her new normal – she is still coming to
terms with it and willing herself to be as independent as possible – she is intelligent,
determined & passionate.

Sam Henderson – Stage Age: 30 to 40

Husband to Susy, and keen for her to develop her
independence and autonomy for coping with her blindness. A dedicated, professional
photographer, who travels internationally and has a photographic studio in an adjoining
neighbourhood.

Gloria – Stage Age: 12 – 13

A young kid with an “attitude”, and problems coping with
other kids at school. She wears glasses and if her school mates call her “4 eyes” she can
go into a rage. She lives upstairs from Susy, her parents have separated and she misses her
father.

1st Policeman – A Minor role which appears at the end of the show with torchlights.

2nd Policeman – A Minor role which appears at the end of the show with torchlights.
