Become a member and get involved with the Guild Theatre
What is The Guild Theatre?
The Guild Theatre, Rockdale is a longstanding community theatre group in Sydney. Established in 1952, the Guild offers its members the opportunity to participate in a range of theatre activities, including bringing entertaining and high-quality productions to its patrons.
What does the Guild season look like?
The Guild stages four major productions and a children’s pantomime each year. We rely on our membership for our cast and crew, to build sets, operate lights and sound, and to perform Front of House and other duties. Auditions are held for each production and all members are invited to participate.
I love the theatre, but I don’t always want to be on stage. Is The Guild for me?
Your passion for theatre is welcome at the Guild where you can take on multiple roles both on stage and behind the scenes. You can experience all aspects of theatre including acting, directing, set design, lighting, sound operation, stage management, costuming and prompting.
Quarterly Members’ nights also provide members with the opportunity to try their skills at acting or directing without committing to a full season of shows. In addition, we have a playwrighting group, a playreading group and a range of other activities in the works. These all present great opportunities to meet fellow theatre-lovers and develop your skills.
What is expected of Guild members?
As a community theatre, we rely on our active and enthusiastic membership to ensure our theatre thrives! We are all volunteers, and we appreciate that many hands make light work so whatever time commitment you can make to the theatre will be welcomed. Members are expected to assist with Front of House and working-bee duties and are thanked with complimentary opening night tickets to the next production.
We also expect our members to behave in ways consistent with our Guild Theatre Member Code of Conduct. This document reflects our commitment to ensuring our theatre community is an enjoyable, safe and respectful environment for all members.
How much does membership cost?
Membership costs $25.00 initial joining fee and $25.00 yearly fee.
Please note, The Guild is a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee and as a member you become a member of the Company. This means you get to have a say in its direction. Members also accept that if the Company ever needs to be wound up and is in debt they may have to pay a small amount. (We’ve been going since 1952, so this isn’t likely to happen anytime soon!)
Junior Membership
The Guild sometimes has opportunities for children and young people to perform in productions or get involved in certain back-stage activities. Junior Membership costs $10 initial joining fee and then $10.00 yearly fee until the age of 18.
