While watching a parade for the King, Louise has the misfortune of having her underpants fall to the ground. Her puritanical husband is furious but that is not the end of the scandal. The couple have a room for rent which encourages a variety of male characters to apply. Gertrude, a busybody neighbour, decides to take matters – and Louise – into her own hands. Even the King becomes involved. The play is an adaptation by Steve Martin of an early German farce.
